In today’s world healing has taken so many different forms. We no longer believe that western medicine is the only approach to healing. Healing for me is an artistic expression of our soul that takes us on a journey from darkness to light.
Some wounds are tougher to heal. It stays with us invisibly for years. It may feel like it’s not there but deep down we know, a sound, a sight, a smell can trigger it at any time.
Different types of wounds
It can be a tough childhood, an abused and oppressed past, or a toxic relationship, losing a loved one, or feeling unworthy and undeserving. The need to heal is paramount for us now if we want to ascend to a new level of being, a new level of creativity where can foster relationships and create conscious businesses with service at the forefront.
A holistic approach to healing
I want to introduce you to aboriginal healing where a more holistic approach is taken to healing compared to western medicine. Both the spiritual and emotional aspect of human life is taken into consideration. A truly healthy person is the whole flowing harmoniously with all aspects of life including all sentient beings and nature itself.

About the aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation
The aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation in Australia is actively providing service to garner a more holistic approach to healing. For someone who has experienced trauma; these methods have a big impact on their lives. A trauma patient says about his experience, ‘Healing to me is being able to come to terms with the trauma I’ve experienced throughout my life, and the fact I cannot change what has already occurred, but I can start to connect with my spiritual self and take the time I need by myself to discover what the road ahead has in store for me. (Williams, 2011)
Methods of holistic healing
There are many approaches to holistic healing. The “Navajo Hataali” spend years studying and working with a master healer to learn their craft of singing healing ceremonies. (Williams, 2011). Chants, cleansing, smoke rituals, counseling, healing circles, breathwork, yoga, energy healing systems like Reiki or Akasha, aromatherapy, herbal therapy, Feldenkreis, and many more are all part of different healing methods.
Growing Popularity of holistic healing
We can see a growing use of these systems in the figure below. This shows a growing interest in holistic healing among users in the USA.

Research on energy healing
A study undertaken in the end-to-end journal revealed that people experienced an improvement of symptoms, well-being, and improved activity level of approximately 50% regardless of the nature of the complaints. Women reported more improvement than men did. The pre-post changes were found after an average of 4.1 treatments. Forty percent of the participants reported adverse effects, which occurred directly after the healing session, generally lasting for less than one day. (Agnete E. Kristoffersen, 2018)
This is only after one session and you can only imagine the effects after a continual practice including other modalities of healing like herbal therapy, hydrotherapy, or guided imagery in the process. I mean the possibilities are endless here.
Transforming the negative energies
These techniques and methods allow you to deal with your unconscious, the trapped energy of guilt, fear, hatred, jealously, or shame. They are the birth of all kinds of diseases we experience.
They need to be transformed in an alchemic process. Alchemy is an ancient science of transforming base metals into gold or something extraordinary. In the same way, our healing is only possible when we make peace with these emotions and allow them to transform into something more supportive.
Here are three simple ways you can begin your healing journey.
- Consuming fresh and green produce: The food that we consume also has a certain kind of energy to it. A fresher more organic produce has more vitality compared to something deep-fried. It adds vitality to our life. We feel a lot better after consuming fresh and green produce directly from our homes.
- Spending more time in nature: Nature has a very calming effect for us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It heals us internally as we begin to breathe fresher air and enrich in the silence of the forests. As we now know every thought has a certain energetic frequency attached to it, then in nature with no one around we experience a very relaxed atmosphere. In the documentary “Heal for free” Howard Straus, Edgar D. Mitchell, and Gaetan Chevalier have scientifically discussed how grounding which is about contacting the earth for several hours a day can have an adverse effect on our health.
- Making it a practice to give time to your tough feelings: The way we perceive negative feelings is not at all healthy for us. When they come, they usually have a message, a deeper one. We always have a choice to either shove them under the mat or let them come to the forefront so that they find a release within us knowing that they served their purpose. And that happens with acceptance. They know it’s time for you to heal to feel more whole and joyful. A simple way to do this is by voicing our feelings on paper without being judgmental towards them. This way we strengthen our connection with the unconscious mind and work together with it to release it into the ether.
- Breathwork: We can regularly make a habit of constantly breathing deeply to re-energize our minds. When we take in more oxygen, we produce more serotonin in our brain which makes us feel more energized and rejuvenated. It acts as a cathartic process to release any kind of stagnant energy that we may be carrying. Many holistic healing processes include breathwork as a part of their practice.
Doing these small activities every day consistently fills us up with tremendous energy to achieve whatever we set out to do in the world. This is the secret to healing, an ancient one, and one that is available to us every moment of our lives.
