I am honestly a very “feel feel” person if you know what I mean. We tend to be very spontaneous, take actions based on our feelings never stop to analyze the consequences of our actions. It is both a boon and a curse. This a boon because you are very less likely to get stuck in an “analysis paralysis” situation. A curse because you might have to wait to feel good to take action.
A feeling is what motivates us
In life, even though a feeling is what motivates us to act, it is often the system we create around ourselves which sustains our success. This is something I have been guilty of. In the past, I have sparked with tremendous energy and passion for what I wanted to create, and what would really create tremendous value for people.
I lacked system
But because I lacked a system, organization, and a clear plan. I often get into a pattern of sparks of action and long durations of confusion and doubt. I have realized it to be the lack of creating a proper system around me that would help me continue on my endeavor.
Living beyond extremes
But the other extreme of being too dependent on structures creates reliance, a safety net that stops growth and learning. One begins to get comfortable with where they are and forget their deeply held dreams and desires that want to spring through them. Living through extremes is definitely not the approach to life one must take.
A dreading 9-5 full of structure, to-dos, and KPIs
An example of this- I think is people who get tied into their 9-5 jobs hoping and wishing that things will get better or the next promotion will give them the happiness they had been looking for. The truth of the matter is that they have stopped dreaming and think it is too childish to even do so but can’t wait to finish their jobs and go home, desperately waiting for the weekend to show up just to dread going back to the same job on a Monday.
Do you dare explore possibilities?
What would it feel like to get inspired to wake up to get to work? How would it feel to know that the work you do makes a real impact on people’s lives? These questions can open up new directions in our lives but only a few would ever choose to ask themselves such questions because it would demand them to come out of their comfort zone. Every day I choose to find something that gets me out of my comfort zone.
It is often true that a spark of immense emotions and intuition is obstructed by reality and what is possible in the current context. We must navigate our way through analyzing the needs of the people, their challenges, and their willingness to receive what we want to provide.
So here is what I did
Changed my environment
First I changed my environment, the easiest thing to change compared to inner thoughts and habits. I got out of home, partnered with a friend of mine, shared office space, and, voila, my productivity has increased much more.
Creating a proper plan on what we want to accomplish in the next three to six months:
The next for us was to use what we already have. We created an action, plan, and a schedule and divided our roles and responsibilities so that we knew what we were supposed to do. Every day we read the manifesto of why we began the work we do it helps us to move past obstacles that we face throughout the day.
